Book Cover Reflection

Explain your overall concept and how the cover might attract specific viewers.
The overall concept is that the Eliza needs to find a way to tell her parents that she’s going to go to Saudi Arabia for her journalism career. So I wanted New York, Saudi Arabia, journalism, and travel/distance to be on the cover.

What is the main focus in your design?  How were you able to create this?
The main focus is distance. I wanted to express a long distance type of theme. I used Gimp to create the images to show a distance between New York and Saudi Arabia.

Does your font type, font size, and font colors relate to the short story or compliment your design?
I choose the colors blue and yellow for the cover because they’re the colors on a U.S. passport. I choose black and white for the images because I thought that it worked well with the blue and pop out. Then I choose the peach color because orange is complementary to blue and I needed another color for the border and the summary.

How does the back cover relate to the short story? Are there characteristics of the front cover that carry over to the back cover?
I wanted a simple back cover, so I didn't use any images. The colors were carried over from the front and it's just a simple summary and two quotes from the story.
